AIEMA Silver Jubilee Trust
AIEMA Silver Jubilee Trust was formed in 1988 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Association (AIEMA). It is a Trust with 80G exemption under Income-tax Act, established to promote social welfare activities for the employees working in the Estate.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, AIEMA supports the working women and their children with a well equipped Crèche, which has become a benchmark, and recognises the academic excellence of the employees’ children with study scholarships every year.
The assistance extended is for Higher Secondary, Diploma, Professional Degree and Non-Professional Degree courses. We apply certain basic norms like class studied, marks obtained, the parent-employee’s salary etc. for selection of the scholarship awardees.
The number of beneficiaries and the scholarship amounts disbursed over the years have been growing steadily:
- In 2006-07, the recipients were 96 and the amount distributed was Rs.1.48 lakhs
- In 2007-08, 105 children received a total amount of Rs.1.95 lakhs
- In 2008-09, we distributed Rs.2.61 lakhs to a total of 137 students, and
- For 2009-10, 194 students are getting a total of Rs.3.00 lakhs as schol arship awards. Both the number of recipients and the funds ear marked have doubled.
Another noteworthy point is that the ratio of girl students has been constantly increasing. This year they constitute a very impressive 53%.
Our humble contribution in the form of study scholarships so far is over Rs.15 lakhs.
We could achieve this milestone with the active support from employers in the Estate and ATC.
